Water’s Beauty in Nature and Islam

We find so many beautiful expressions of water in nature. At times entertaining to our senses, spraying fountains can refresh and energize our eyes. And at other times, soothing the eyes with its calm surface, contemplating still water can be a very peaceful and enjoyable pastime. From the tiniest bubble of dew dripping from a flower petal, to the bubbling spring traveling happily down the newly green mountainside, water makes many extraordinary journeys in its cycle from the sky to the sea, and the sea back to the sky.

Celebrating the cycle of water, Islam offers many revelations regarding God’s blessing of water in our lives. Filled with many more verses on water than these few, I am happy to share with you some lovely verses from the Holy Quran. Combined with public domain images I found on Pixabay.com, I hope this short contemplation of water’s beauty in nature and in Islam will bring you soothing enjoyment, and peaceful contemplation.

Water’s Beauty in Nature and Islam:

He it is Who created the heavens and the earth in six Days and His Throne was over the waters that He might try you, which of you is best in conduct. [Quran 11-7]

And Allah has created every animal from water: of them there are some that creep on their bellies; some that walk on two legs; and some that walk on four. Allah creates what He wills: for verily Allah has power over all things. [Quran 24:45]

And He it is Who hath created man from water, and hath appointed for him kindred by blood and kindred by marriage; for thy Lord is ever Powerful. [Quran 25:54]

Beholdest thou not that Allah sendeth down water from the heaven, and then We thereby bring fruit of diverse colours? [Quran 35:27]

And two seas are not alike; this one is sweet, saturating, pleasant to drink, and that one is salt, bitter. But from each, you eat fresh meat, and derive ornaments that you wear. And you see the boats therein cleaving through water, so that you may search for His grace, and that you may be grateful. [Quran 35:12]

And among His signs is that you see the land inactive; then, once We send down water thereto, it gets excited and swells. Surely, the One who has given life to it is the One who gives life to the dead. No doubt, He is powerful to do everything. [Quran 41:39]

Hast thou not seen how Allah hath sent down water from the sky and hath caused it to penetrate the earth as springs, and afterward thereby produceth crops of diverse hues; and afterward they wither and thou seest them turn yellow; then He maketh them chaff. Lo! herein verily is a reminder for men of understanding. [Quran 39:21]

Verily the God-fearing will be amid Gardens and water-springs. [Quran 51:15]
